Highlights Of the Match
From the start of the second Inning Rohit was on a mission, he was in a league of his own game, taking control of the game from the beginning, setting the right tone from the PowerPlay. Everything aligned perfectly with him the combination of short boundaries, a quick outfield, a flat wicket, a reachable target, and dew in the evening set the stage for his dominance.
He not only broke Chris Gayle’s record of hitting maximum sixes but made the new record of achieving India’s fastest World Cup century in just 63 deliveries. To top off it, he breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most centuries in the World Cup 2023, i.e., six Centuries in total.
The chase didn’t start with explosive, with India scoring only 13 runs in the first three overs. But then, Rohit decided to take charge and took on the Afghan bowlers single-handedly. Fazalhaq Farooqi faced the roar of Rohit, conceding 31 runs, including four boundaries and two sixes, in just 10 balls. Naveen-ul-Haq and Azmatullah Omarzai followed suit, unable to break the Rohit’s speed.
By the time Rohit fell, India had already reached the score of 200-run in the just 25th over. Later on, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer finished the match with an unbroken partnership of 72 runs. While it was amazing to watch Rohit’s sixes rain shower, Iyer’s 101-meter hit off on Mujeeb bowled stole the whole spotlight. Kohli also contributed with the bat back-to-back fifties, in consecutive two matches from the start of his World Cup journey.
Bumrah’s brilliant and effective bowling from the powerplay put an end to a promising partnership by dismissing Ibrahim Zadran. then India’s vice-captain, Hardik Pandya joined the party and added to the pressure on the Afghanistan team by dismissing Rahmanullah Gurbaz, followed by Shardul Thakur’s LBW dismissal of Rahmat Shah. Despite having a good batting lineup, the resilient partnership between Shahidi and Omarzai couldn’t last for a while, and Afghanistan couldn’t maintain the momentum.
Rohit’s return at death was a final blow of mind to Afghanistan’s team hopes to win the match just slipped away from 184/3 in the 35th over to 235/7. Bumrah played a crucial role in dismantling the Afghan lineup, bringing down Afghanistan’s key players like Najibullah Zadran and Mohammad Nabi in the match.
India’s victory was nothing less than a perfect blend of their brilliant bowling and an extraordinary batting performance, with Rohit Sharma leading the charge.
So, We Win It Again, India’s dominance wins Like a Pro and marks the second spot in the points table of the ICC World Cup series 2023. It was a day filled with records, boundaries, and a lot of FireCrack performance!
